I think we should be there with signs and literature about supporting H.R. 1207 as well as opposing H.R. 3996. There's no reason to try to get people to speak at it (committee hearings are dog-and-pony shows, strictly for PR and the legislators are all but playing poker back there) but if we had say 10 people circulating Stop HR 3996 lit to attendees and maybe media and holding up signs (if we brought little 9"x12" paper signs they couldn't stop us from bringing them in, and could have a simple message like "STOP Bankster's Paradise HR 3996) it could shake them a little. HR 3996 hasn't even broken in the media yet and if they see there is already opposition to it organizing and it it's the same people who supported HR1207... it might stir things up a bit.-

There isn't enough room to school you here, just enough to correct common errors attributed to the common knowlege of hack economists.

Ross - Huh??? Did you even read what I wrote? I said metals ARE scarce, and for those who have it... in quantity, it's rather heavy and cumbersome. That's why we went to paper.

Let's see... Cuz companies can be trusted to print money... They can't even be trusted to keep track of their own money, much less to make mine. In this instance, oversight is absolutely necessary. Without it, where does the trust I spoke of come from? You can't just throw it to private industry and expect all will be well. If there's easy money to be made, someone will find a way make it, or should I say take it. I didn't say the market can't provide. I simply question the efficacy of it's implementation.

If people could discern fraud from fact, there would be no fraud. In fact, if people could discern fraud from fact, there would be no Obama! Isn't that why they keep redesigning the money, cuz people were able to print money from their desktop? Secret Service wasn't created to protect the Prez, it was to protect the money. This is (at least partly) where people's trust in the value of the dollar comes from.

I am fully aware of the govt's intrusion into the private sector... HELLO!!! This IS Detroit after all (ie GM). So please, keep your attempts to school others to yourself. You're not good at it.

Lora, we went to metals because they were scarce, you claim otherwise. You also seem to think the market can't provide, however it's obvious the governments are in direct competition with it. Again with counterfitting you assume the consumer can't make good decisions about fraud and needs some third party regulator. All concepts drilled into you at the conformity factory.

It is a conundrum, isn't it? How to fund govt w/o being a burden to people, & w/o attacking livelihoods. The 16th Amendment seems unconstitutional, as it impedes a person's Right to Pursue their Happiness (this includes businesses which of course are mostly owned by individuals). The Flat Tax, while an improvement, is still an income tax. Other than a sales tax & tariffs on imports, their isn't much left for the govt to raise significant revenue. At least with the Fair Tax, I can control the tax I pay by controlling what I spend.

As far as the currency goes, the reason we went to paper money is because precious metals are scarce. Local banks began issuing their own currency for customers to use in lieu of metals. We went to a national currency because Legal Tender in one locality had no value in another, and people wanted to travel. Now, I don't have much in the way of Gold & Silver, & who could afford it now anyway? Copper is already a currency of sorts... people steal plumbing & wiring to cash in on recycling. So what are we left with? Not much.

David - How do we leave our monetary system to the Free Market? Companies compete for money production? Would they be better able to prevent counterfeiting? Wouldn't there would still be a need for govt oversight? Where's the difference? Any currency, new or old, only has value if people have faith in it... how would they accomplish this? I think I must not understand this concept very well, because I don't see how it can be done.

David Seaver, good question. check out themoneymasters.com, they have an excellent solution, the monetary reform act. also monetary.org, as well as andrew gause on the real money segments at oneradionetwork.com with patrick timpone, these are all good to start with. a great book that first revealed the fraud of the fed is by eustace mullins (who just died in the last month or so) and is called "Secrets of the Federal Reserve". this should give you plenty to start with.

Son of Liberty, you are a great man! i didn't know about the statist hack from Michigan activists calendar. maybe it would be good to go to those events and find out who the manipulative infiltrators are, and root them out!

I'm wondering how this transition to free market money production would go.
Is there any website I could be referred to that would help me in understanding this?
I'm writing a paper for college and am only missing this, as I figure what is the point in complaining about something if I refuse to be an architect as well.
