What Happened In/To America?
There is a story about a farmer in Iowa that grew corn but had a problem with wild hogs coming in and eating all his produce. So he devised a plan.
Instead of letting them come in and devour all of his crop, he took a portion of it and set it out in a field for the hogs to dine on.
They were shy of it at first but gradually realized that it was much easier to glean their food from the pile he made for them than to forage in his fields and, since he left them an abundance, they ate less and less of his growing corn. This worked fairly well but it wasn’t the total solution.
His second step was to build a short fence that he piled the corn against. Again the hogs were spooked at first but came to accept the fence against which their free meal was propped and greedily wolfed it down.
When they were comfortable with that he put up two sides attached to the first fence and waited. Again the hogs were wary but, when they found no threat, they began to eat.
When they were comfortable with that they were ready for the final step and the farmer attached a gate to the remaining side and waited. He wasn’t disappointed. After their initial reluctance they came into the pen to eat; wherein the farmer closed the gate. Now he had all of his corn… to go with his ham dinner.
The moral: Ain’t no free meals – Never was, never will be.
This is what happened to America. Are we principled enough to break out of the pen?
It’s NOT the fed that’s to blame… IT’S YOU!
